ECR Pricing Calculator - Private & Public Container Registry Costs

This ECR pricing calculator uses official AWS pricing data from Amazon's public pricing API. It accounts for storage tiers, free tier benefits for both private and public repositories, and data transfer costs. Pricing is consistent across all AWS regions for ECR. For production budgets, verify costs in the AWS Billing console.

Use private repositories for proprietary container images that should only be accessible within your organization. Use public repositories (ECR Public Gallery) for open-source projects or images you want to share publicly. Public repos get 50 GB always-free storage vs 500 MB for private repos (first 12 months only).

Data transfer from ECR to AWS services (EC2, ECS, Lambda, Fargate, App Runner) in the same region is always free. For public repositories, transfer to any AWS region is free. Cross-region or internet transfer from private repositories follows standard AWS data transfer rates (tiered pricing starting at $0.09/GB).

ECR Archiveis a cost-optimized storage class for inactive container images you need to retain but don't actively pull. It has a minimum 90-day retention period. Images in archive cannot be pulled directly - they must be retrieved first ($0.03/GB). Use archive for compliance, disaster recovery, or old version retention.

Public ECR repositories have generous free transfer: 500 GB/month for anonymous users (without AWS account), or 5 TB/month for authenticated AWS users. Transfer to any AWS region is unlimited and free. After the free tier, transfer to the internet costs $0.09/GB.

Private repositories: 500 MB/month storage for new AWS customers (first 12 months). Public repositories: 50 GB/month storage (always free, all customers), plus 500 GB anonymous transfer or 5 TB authenticated transfer to the internet. Transfer to AWS regions is unlimited and free for public repos.
