Frequently Asked Questions
What counts as a message charge in Amazon SES?
A single outbound email counts as one SES message charge. A single inbound email also counts as one message charge. If you enable Virtual Deliverability Manager (VDM), each outbound email adds another message charge for VDM processing.
Does SES still have a free tier?
AWS withdrew the recurring SES free tier of 3,000 message charges per month in July 2026. New AWS customers instead receive time-limited AWS Free Tier credits that apply at the account level across eligible services, so this calculator models every SES message at its published rate.
Why can managed dedicated IP pricing become unavailable?
The official AWS SES pricing page lists managed dedicated IP pricing through 100 million emails per month. Above that threshold AWS currently shows Contact us instead of a public rate, so this calculator fails closed instead of guessing a price.
What Mail Manager charges are included here?
This tool includes open ingress endpoints, email processing, incoming email chunks, extra recipients for Send to Internet, archive ingestion, and archive storage. It does not model custom-priced Mail Manager add-ons or Deliverability Expert Services.
