What is the pricing difference between Standard and Express workflows?

Standard workflows bill per state transition. Express workflows bill for each request plus the billed duration and memory consumed by each execution.

Does AWS Step Functions include a free tier?

Standard workflows include 4,000 free state transitions per month. Express workflows do not use that Step Functions free tier model.

How does Express workflow duration billing work?

AWS rounds Express workflow duration up to the nearest 100ms and bills memory in 64MB chunks. That means short executions or slightly larger payloads can cost more than a raw average would suggest.

Does this calculator include Lambda or ECS costs triggered by a workflow?

No. This calculator only estimates Step Functions charges. If your workflow invokes Lambda functions or ECS tasks, model those separately with the Lambda calculator and ECS calculator.
