Amazon WorkSpaces Pricing Calculator - AlwaysOn vs AutoStop
Estimate Amazon WorkSpaces Personal pricing by region, operating system, Windows license, hardware bundle, storage, running mode, usage hours, and desktop count.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do AlwaysOn and AutoStop WorkSpaces pricing differ?
AlwaysOn uses one fixed monthly bundle price per WorkSpace. AutoStop uses a monthly infrastructure fee plus an hourly rate for each metered hour. AWS bills a partial hour as a full hour, and maintenance can add metered usage.
How does the calculator find the AutoStop break-even point?
For compatible published rates, it subtracts the AutoStop monthly infrastructure fee from the AlwaysOn monthly price and divides the difference by the AutoStop hourly rate. It hides the threshold when any required rate is missing, zero, negative, or incompatible.
Does the calculator add Windows RDS licensing separately?
No. The Windows license-included WorkSpaces Personal SKU already includes the applicable Remote Desktop Services subscriber access license, so adding a second RDS license charge would double count it.
Are directory and public IPv4 charges included?
Simple AD and AD Connector usage is included where AWS supports it for WorkSpaces. AWS Managed Microsoft AD and public IPv4 addresses are separate charges and are excluded from this estimate.
How can I reduce Amazon WorkSpaces costs?
Use AutoStop for intermittent users and compare actual metered hours with the configuration-specific break-even point. Move consistently high-usage desktops to AlwaysOn, right-size the hardware bundle and storage pair, and use BYOL only when your Microsoft licensing and AWS eligibility requirements are satisfied.
What costs are excluded from this WorkSpaces estimate?
The estimate excludes WorkSpaces Pools, Core, Secure Browser, Applications, Thin Client, Multi-Region Resilience and replication, education discounts, Free Tier credits, AWS Managed Microsoft AD, public IPv4 charges, taxes, support, negotiated pricing, and optional third-party software or application bundles.
