AWS Cost Tree shows where a connected AWS account's spend went over the last 30 days and compares it with the 30 days before. Use it to find the services, usage types, and Regions behind a change in your bill.
Prerequisites
- A connected AWS account with working role access and results storage
- A Pro or Enterprise plan: see Plans and billing
The Cost Tree reads spend from AWS Cost Explorer through your CloudBurn role. Follow any setup guidance shown on the page if cost data cannot be loaded.
Explore the account
- Open AWS Cost Tree under Cost analysis and choose an AWS account.
- Choose Service to group spend by service and usage type, or Region to group it by Region and service.
- Select a tile to see its spend, share of the total, change from the previous period, daily cost, monthly pace, and trend. Double-click a tile to open its group; use All services or All Regions to return to the full map.
- Turn on Color by change to distinguish spend that went down, stayed flat, or went up or appeared for the first time. Use Filter to narrow the map to a service, usage type, or Region.
The Bill panel lists charges by record type, including credits. Check the displayed date range when comparing these figures with another billing view. Yesterday is excluded while Cost Explorer finishes reporting it.
The page shows when cost data was read and the Cost Explorer request charges billed to your AWS account. Check that timestamp before relying on the figures as current.
Export the cost data
Choose Export for AI to download a JSON file for further analysis. The export covers the account's cost data, rather than just the tiles left visible by a filter.
To investigate resources behind the spend, use Cost Optimization. The Cost Tree shows spending patterns; optimization scans provide resource findings and evidence to review before making changes.
